Nestled in the heart of the desert, Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa stands as one of the world’s most luxurious and unique hotels. Reviewed : Asia had the pleasure of experiencing this oasis for a weekend and is here to share the remarkable journey.

The setting

Located around 45 minutes away from Dubai in the direction of Al Ain, the journey to Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa is an adventure in itself. Situated within the “Dubai Natural Conservation Reserve,” the hotel immerses guests in a natural and wildlife-rich environment.

Upon arriving at the desert’s edge, guests park their vehicles in a secure area at the resort’s entrance. A guide welcomes them and ushers them into one of the hotel’s 4×4 vehicles to reach the reception. The 15-minute drive deeper into the desert feels like a treasure hunt, unveiling the hidden gem that is Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa.

The reception experience at Al Maha is unlike any other. Instead of a typical hotel counter, guests step into what feels like a grand villa. A warm welcome cocktail awaits as guests step in.

Personal concierges, attentive to guests’ every need throughout their stay, greet visitors and guide them to a majilis. Here, guests complete their check-in and receive a briefing on the upcoming activities.

Al Maha exclusively offers villas, each an independent and detached unit reminiscent of Bedouin tents. The suites are adorned in beige hues with canvas roofs, effortlessly blending with the desert’s backdrop.

Every suite boasts a private pool with an expansive desert view. Starting from the 75 square meter “Bedouin” suite, options include the Emirates suite, a two-bedroom option, the royal suite, and the presidential suite.

The resort harmoniously coexists with the surrounding wildlife. Indigenous animals roam freely, often coming within meters of the private pools. Birds frequently visit the pools, providing guests with a relaxing natural spectacle.

Al Maha is committed to sustainability. All water used throughout the resort is carefully filtered, recycled, and repurposed to irrigate the oasis’s greenery. This approach, set against the desert backdrop, underscores the resort’s dedication to responsible living.

Leisure & Well-being

Each room package includes two complimentary activities. These offerings include guided desert walks exploring the local fauna and flora, sunset camel treks, and early morning falconry displays. Additional options range from archery to horseback riding and guided 4×4 desert excursions.
