Getting there

Positioned off the western coast of Peninsula Malaysia, Langkawi is a captivating archipelago consisting of 104 small deserted islands scattered across the lush Andaman Sea. Granted the status of the very first UNESCO GEOPARK in Southeast Asia in 2007, the island is renowned for its diverse geological features, unique flora and fauna, and a vibrant fusion of local cultures.

Air Asia operates multiple flights throughout the day between the capital and the island, with flights available nearly every hour. Booking well in advance could secure you tickets for as little as AED 100 each way.

Upon landing at Langkawi International Airport, the arrival procedure was smooth, thanks to the new terminal that meets international standards. We managed to navigate the airport in just 20 minutes from touchdown.

The Danna Langkawi takes pride in upholding its legacy of offering a luxurious lifestyle. This 5-star resort features Colonial-Mediterranean inspired architecture and is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and serene sandy beaches.

The Danna Langkawi is strategically located just a short 20-minute drive from the airport, situated on a tranquil beach at the foot of Gunung Machinchang mountain, a must-see attraction on the island. Approaching the resort, the grand white mansion leaves a lasting impression, visible from quite a distance as you descend the hill. As the only colonial-designed hotel on the island, this 5-star property exudes heritage and tradition.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The welcome is genuinely warm, a given considering The Danna’s accolades as the Best 5-Star Hotel in Langkawi for five consecutive years, and its place among the Top 25 luxury hotels in Asia.

As part of The Danna’s arrival experience, guests receive a 5-minute leg and shoulder massage from spa staff while awaiting the completion of check-in procedures. Refreshing apple-lime juice with clove welcomes you.

The lobby sets the tone with sumptuous leather, vibrant carpets, high ceilings, and chandeliers. The air is consistently scented with the beautiful fragrance of jasmine throughout the hotel.

"The hard work and passion for hospitality demonstrated by its staff is evident at every level.”

THE ROOMS

The Danna Langkawi offers 125 rooms across 10 categories, all located in the main building of the hotel with colonial features. A new section consisting of 9 one-bedroom villas and a two-bedroom villa with contemporary design was recently added, positioned right on the beach.

Whether you choose the Merchant, Marina, or Viceroy Category, the rooms in the main building are generously sized, ranging from 65 to 1080 square meters, larger than the average hotel room in Asia.

All rooms and suites feature a private balcony, separate bathtub, and a rainforest shower. Rooms in the main building offer views of the sea and pool, marina, rainforest, or the harbor village and mountain.

During our stay, we had the privilege of experiencing the newly built villa section of the hotel. We enjoyed ultimate luxury in a 1-bedroom villa right on the beach. The villas prioritize guests’ privacy by featuring oversized private pools.

Amid lush greenery and the serenity of the Andaman Sea, the villas create a tranquil ambiance. They include a refined living room, a well-appointed bedroom with modern amenities, and contemporary touches.

Ideal for wanderlust seekers seeking a premium beach holiday, The Danna Langkawi Princess and Empress Beach Villas are no less than 490 square meters and 1080 square meters for the 2-bedroom unit.

The highlight of our villa was undoubtedly the stunning 60 square meter infinity pool, surrounded by a tropical garden and complemented by a private sun deck with loungers.

Bathrooms match the villa’s excellence, featuring a bathtub and a standalone rainforest shower to relax after a day of exploring the island. Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, the bay windows offer relaxing views while you bathe or shower.

A patio connected to the dressing room includes a private in-villa massage area with couple massage beds, showcasing the attention to detail in the design of The Danna Langkawi’s villas.

The villas not only feature contemporary interior design and modern technology – like an oversized 65-inch flat screen in all rooms, an espresso coffee machine, Bluetooth-enabled audio systems, and iPad docking stations with iPad minis – but also offer numerous additional benefits.

Complimentary return airport transfers, daily restocked minibars, daily afternoon snacks in your room, 4 pieces of laundry daily, 24-hour personal villa butler, and unlimited Netflix series and movies (yes, Netflix is complimentary in all villas!) are among the perks included in The Danna villa stay package.

Leisure & Well-being

The Danna Langkawi boasts the island’s largest 3-tiered infinity pool, a true masterpiece complete with a Jacuzzi and kids’ area.

Additional leisure and entertainment facilities at the hotel encompass a Kids Club, games room, pool room, and a reading room offering stunning views of the sea and surrounding islands.

Perched on the hotel’s top floor with panoramic views of lush greenery and the marina, the Danna Langkawi Spa offers a diverse range of massages and treatments. With 7 single and 2 couple suites, the spa is a sanctuary for those seeking a special moment of relaxation during their stay.

Various facials, special treatments, and massages for the feet, hands, back, or shoulders are also available for those focusing on specific areas of the body.

We opted for a 60-minute aromatherapy massage. It was a true sensory awakening – a gentle massage based on essential oils, expertly delivered by our therapist.

The spa also includes a steam room accessible to hotel residents.

CULINARY EXPERIENCES

From dawn till dusk, The Danna Langkawi epitomizes luxury living for travelers ready to indulge. The F&B offerings at The Danna Langkawi include two main restaurants, a coffee shop, a pool bar, a cigar lounge, and a bar.

Planters

Overlooking the infinity pool and the Andaman Sea, The Planters offers a daily buffet breakfast and serves lunch and dinner. It boasts an array of Asian and Western-inspired cuisine. The open-kitchen concept allows guests to witness the chef’s culinary prowess and savor the tantalizing aromas of their culinary creations in progress.

A special shout-out goes to the freshly baked croissants, perhaps the best on the island, served directly to your table by the gracious hostess. They’re truly reminiscent of authentic French croissants found in Parisian bakeries!

We dined at the restaurant for dinner twice and appreciated its extensive menu. A must-try at Planters is the Malay tasting platter, offering a generous selection of 8 traditional Malay dishes, including seafood, beef, chicken, and vegetarian dishes, all expertly prepared with local spices.

Planters also caters to International, Pakistani, and Indian cuisine enthusiasts.

Terrace

Situated next to the 3-tiered infinity pool, The Terrace is a fine dining restaurant offering Italian cuisine and fresh seafood dishes. It’s open for lunch and dinner. The bar and pavilion create a perfect setting for couples to share romantic moments.

A highlight for us was the antipasti platter, perfect for two. It featured a mouthwatering assortment of perfectly smoked duck, exquisite bresaola beef, fresh buffalo mozzarella, and vegetable carpaccio served with tomato jam.

FINAL VERDICT

Our stay at The Danna Langkawi was genuinely exceptional. The hotel’s reputation as the best luxury property on the island, earned and upheld over the years, is unequivocally well-earned.

The dedication to detail and the level of service showcased at The Danna Langkawi ensure a truly remarkable and unforgettable stay, whether it’s a couple’s retreat or a family getaway.

One thing is certain: we will return!
