REVIEWED: THE AFTERNOON TEA AT BURJ AL ARAB, DUBAI, UAE

Rate this post

Who hasn’t dreamed of stepping foot into Dubai’s most iconic hotel and unveiling the secrets behind the scenes at the Burj Al Arab? This renowned sail-shaped tower has become one of Dubai’s iconic landmarks, on par with the Burj Khalifa and the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. Visible from various vantage points across the city, the tower has become a quintessential part of the cityscape, impossible to miss. However, the interior of the hotel remains a mystery to many. Here, we unveil a portion of that mystery by sharing our experience of the Ultimate Afternoon Tea at the Burj Al Arab.

An Artificial Island

The entrance to the hotel lives up to expectations, boasting a grandeur that offers a unique view of the Jumeirah waterfront. Just beyond the Wild Wadi Water Park, a system of barriers and guest lists immediately sets the tone: we are entering a space of limited and controlled access. A causeway leads us to the artificial island created specifically to house the hotel.

The view is breathtaking, encompassing the Madinat Jumeirah with its renowned Pierchic restaurant extending into the sea. Jumeirah Beach stretches below the tower for kilometers, and the sight of the Burj Al Arab against the backdrop of Jumeirah Beach Hotel is strikingly unusual – a vibrant and colorful aquatic realm.

The hotel’s entrance immerses us in its theme: bathed in vibrant and golden hues, featuring an immense central fountain flanked by escalators adjacent to giant aquariums. The hotel’s reception is nestled within a giant seashell, and the interplay of light further enhances the aquatic ambiance.

Café Sahn Eddar, located on the first floor of the lobby, offers a view of the hotel’s original interior architecture and an exterior view of the Madinat Jumeirah through expansive windows. Opting for a table near the window, we indulged in the view.

The décor is romantic and meticulously designed, all set against the backdrop of vibrant and golden colors.

A True Feast of 7 Courses

The Ultimate Afternoon Tea surprises with its inclusion of a choice of menu with or without alcohol. To our delight, it is, in fact, a sumptuous 7-course meal served individually at the table. The menu encompasses a red fruit tart as an appetizer, a unique assortment of mini sandwiches featuring items like black bread and smoked salmon or a delectable mini duck wrap. It also includes a dish of rolled rosemary and salt-crusted chicken with truffle-infused potato, a lychee sorbet, freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and homemade jams, French pastries, and a final touch of chocolates, biscuits, and petits fours.

 Innovative Beverages

An exceptional non-alcoholic sparkling date juice that masterfully imitates cider accompanies the tasting experience. This is paired with an extensive selection of teas and coffees. The offered teas and infusions are particularly unique, featuring options such as ‘Apple Dreams’ – an infusion of apples, lemongrass, and citrus – or ‘Life & Beauty,’ a tropical fruit and aloe vera infusion. The juices also stand out, with concoctions like elderflower syrup, lemon juice, sumac powder, and lemonade or cucumber juice, rose petal water, passion fruit syrup, and Ginger Ale

A Relaxed and Family-Friendly Atmosphere

Adding to the evening’s surprises is the clientele: predominantly families with children, infusing the atmosphere with joy. Live Arabic music played by a group of musicians enhances the experience and ensures a delightful time. An added bonus, the restaurant’s manager speaks French and goes the extra mile to ensure a perfectly enjoyable Ultimate Afternoon Tea. As night falls, the hotel is illuminated, revealing a different, more intimate (or festive, as desired) ambiance that transitions into the early evening
